Málaga Spain | 16 September, 2023

Its amazing how fast time really does fly, and as I sit here writing its crazy to think that it's now been a year since we left our first port on Semester at Sea. It had long been my dream to sail to Casablanca, Morocco, but on embarkation day, a devestating earthquake shook the beautiful country and required us to divert to a different first port. Málaga, Spain ended up becoming the most beautiful and unexpected surprise city, and helped to heal me in a time when I was greatly needing it. While in port from 16 September to 21 September, we were also given freedom to venture to the UK autonomous territory of Gibraltar, and the neighboring country of Portugal. I quickly fell in love with coastal Spain and the Mediterranean sea, and the charm of the area's culture and history still deeply remains a part of me. Below are some of my favorite memories and small moments from my week in Spain, Gibraltar and Portugal. I hope you enjoy :)
Not a day goes by that I don't think about and miss the memories made and lessons I learned during my short time in our first port. I will never forget how on the evening of September 21st, 2023, the horns blared and the MV World Odyssey began her trek towards Malta as we all sang and danced to September by Earth, Wind & Fire and soaked in every ounce of that moment under a breathtaking sunset.
It's not an adios, Málaga... it's merely an hasta la vista! I am so excited to see Málaga again in a short four months. Until then!
